Job Hunt Update / Rite Aid Stop

UPDATE:
I got the call today saying I got the job - the one with social networking and working with the database! YEAHHH!!! I am so happy and so relieved. Unfortunately, I won't be starting until August, but as long as I start getting paychecks before the end of September we will be ok.

Yesterday, I went on two interviews. The first was at noon and was for a 20 hour a week job doing accounts payable. I had a second interview at 3:45 for a job that I am extremely interested in. This is the job using social media, plus they are thinking about making it a full time job with the added responsibilities of maintaining a new database. They will be calling by the end of the week, so keep the fingers crossed. This would be an awesome job for me.

After I went to my 3:45 interview, I stopped at Rite Aid. I picked up a few things that have rebates and that I have coupons for. The cashier seems to have an aversion to anyone who uses coupons. She scrutinizes and reads every single word. She tries to tell me that I can't get a specific product because it is not the one pictures. I nicely point out that the wording says any 440 ml or greater. She is always very grumpy and nor very friendly. I have had her ring my purchases a few times and have never seen the woman smile. I feel kind of sorry for her, but she shouldn't be taking it out on the customers. Anyways, here's what I bought:
  • Venus Spa Breeze razor on sale for $7.99. I had a $2 coupon plus there is a rebate for $5, making this $.99 2
  • Crest Pro Health rinse on sale for $4.99. I had a $1 coupon plus there is a rebate for $2.25, making this $1.74 1.5
  • Pampers jumbo pack on sale for $8.99. I had a $1 coupon, plus there is a rebate for $2, making this $5.99 2.5

Original Amount: $29.37
Amount saved: $19.25
Amount Paid: $10.12 (saved 65.5%)

Job Interview Today

I had an interview today. It went well and I am really hoping to hear back from them next week. This really could be the perfect job for me. :) So, keep your fingers crossed. My family (and myself) could really use this right now.

I'm working on the Frugal Meal Friday post right now. I had it started, but never got it finished. I should have that up soon. I also have a review that I think I will be posting tomorrow. I received baby shampoo and body wash to use and review. Good stuff!

I'm off to finish my post and start getting dinner around. I would also like to get some pizza dough mixed and rising. I want to make some homemade hot pockets to stick in the freezer. Never tried making them before, so it should be an adventure.

Have a wonderful day!

Job Fair in Elmira

Hubby and I went to the Employment Fair Friday in Elmira. There wasn't a lot of employers there (not like the job fair they had a few months ago in Big Flats), but we figured it would be worth going to and checking it out. Hubby ended up being there just for moral support for me, because there were no manufacturing employees there.

I talked to a few employers, but two of them really stood out as the kind of job that I would really be good at and enjoy. I went home and printed off the one job's pdf job application, filled it out and mailed it in along with my resume, coverletter and list of references. The other job I was interested in, wanted an email stating why I think I would be the appropriate choice for the job, so I worked on that last night and emailed it. I would love to get either one of these jobs as they both sound really interestin. So I'm crossing my fingers.

Either way, I think it was a good experience because I was feeling a little down about not being able to find a job yet. I felt like there was some promise in these jobs and that helped get my spirits up. So, hopefully I will be getting some calls for interviews soon.

Busy Busy Tuesday

Garden Update

This weekend we did a lot of planting. Yesterday we put in our tomato and pepper plants and planted some squash. We have quite a bit of room left, but only have pumpkin seeds to plant. So, we now have beans, cucumbers, lots of lettuce and broccoli, corn, carrots, peas and onions planted. Anyone have any suggestions on what else we can plant? We have quite a bit of room left. No planting today... dreary and rainy out!

Spring Cleaning - A Little Late. LOL

So, today we have been cleaning. Well, actually I have been cleaning. LOL. While hubby was in the living room with the kids, I cleaned the bathroom from top to bathroom. When I am done posting on here, I need to get my kitchen cleaned. I would love to get that room cleaned from top to bottom today also.

There's a lot of organizing to be done too. Five of us living in this 2 1/2 bedroom apartment just doesn't work well. I constantly have to reorganize cabinets and other spaces to maximize our organization to make this place work for us, at least for now. The worst part is that I organize a cabinet and a few months later it is a mess again, because people don't put things back where I had them. I even label shelves using my label maker and they still don't put them in the right spot. GGGRRRRrrr!!

Job Hunt Update

So, as many of you know, my husband was laid off in March. Since then both him and I have been looking for work. Unfortunately there really is nothing out there for him right now. He looks everyday but no one is really hiring machinists right now. There has been quite a few jobs out there that I could do, so I have been sending my resumes to a lot of jthem. If I had to guess I would say that have sent in at least 30 resumes in the last month. Unfortunately, I only got calls for an interview from two of them, and didn't get hired for either.

I try to keep optimistic, but also in the back of my mind I know that in September we will no longer be able to pay all our bills because we will be out of extra money. This includes using our savings to pay bills. The unemployment benefit just isn't enough to cover all our expenses.

Birthday Party Planning
I have been doing things to reduce how much we spend though. This week I didn't go and get groceries, because we are trying to eat out of our pantry and freezer for a while. I will have to get a few things later this week because our oldest son is celebrating his 11th birthday. We're having a cookout for his birthday, so we need to go get ground meat, rolls, plates, cups, etc. I am making the cake and we already bought the ice cream (on sale for $3 and had coupon that doubled to $1.50 so they were only $1.50 each half gallon). I would also like to make something else for the party but I haven't decided what yet. It should turn out to be a pretty good birthday party for him even though we don't have a lot of extra money this year.
